The search is the best part.
Getting out into nature and hunting for the next piece of granite worthy of a living sculpture is a thrill. The hunt for the next great shape always brings excitement.
It’s an honor to share these stones with others and to see what they become: the foundation for a slab planting, a birdbath, or a water basin.
No two slabs are ever the same. Each one is a singular work of art, with its own contours and character. Once it’s separated from the boulder, it can’t be recreated. Other stones may resemble it, but they can never be that one again.
And when you find a truly special piece, the work is real. If you have to carry it out of the woods for miles, you protect it like a sculpture. Then you place a tree on it, the living and the stone meet, and it all feels worth it.
